Budgeting and Planning a Great Tournament
Every season, the APTA sanctions over 250 tournaments of all sizes and types. Two questions asked time and again are ‘How much does it cost to run a tournament?’ and ‘What does the APTA contribute?’ Every tournament will have a different budget due to the size of the draw, whether local, regional, or national, the Tournament Directors' level of detail, and sponsor contributions. At the same time, everyone has access to the APTA resources.
Tournament Directors are in charge of everything—they are local, on-site during the event, and have spent many hours planning, shopping, recruiting volunteers, and fine-tuning their tournament. The APTA supports the Tournament Director as much as is needed or wanted, from online registration to posting photos and results. The APTA funds Live Streaming, Live Scoring, online registration, umpire fees and expenses, and staff time. The APTA does not benefit financially from any tournament that it sanctions. Solid communication between the Tournament Directors and the APTA leads to the most memorable tournaments that people talk about for months after.
