Tournament Director Russ Burgess writes: The 2023 COMO Average Joe took place on December 16th at the Stonington Community Center in Stonington, CT. Players from Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, and Long Island, NY, participated in the 16-team draw on a beautiful sunny December Saturday.
Winners of the Main Draw were Sam Buffum and Tom Bovino from the Boston area. They played a COMO team of Chris Bonkowski and Wyeth O'Neill in a well-contested final with great overall play in front of a substantial fan base (including a few sets of parents and plenty of dogs).
Other results included Ian Arvin and Jim Roach winning the Quarter Reprieve, Matthew Frietag and Adam Kirby winning the Consolation Draw and David Appleman and Charlie Barthholet taking the Conso Reprieve (without ever picking up their racquets!).
