A Fond Farewell to HOF member John F. Mangan
The APTA seHOF member John F. Mangan with his niece HOF member Bobo Delaneynds its heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of John F. Mangan
—an athlete through and through. John was a high-level executive in the finance and venture capital world but found time to compete in five U.S. Open tennis tournaments. In the 1970s, he won two APTA National Championships with Bob Kingsbury and made the finals three times. He also won the 1970 Mixed Nationals with Susie Harris. John was inducted into the 2007 class of the APTA Platform Tennis Hall of Fame, along with Hank Irvine, Gloria Dillenbeck Dodd, Pat Butterfield, Herb Fitz Gibbon, and Doug Russell.
Kingsbury said,” John Mangan had the heaviest return ever. Just ask those who faced it. For that reason, John’s forehand was the biggest offensive weapon in the game in the 1970s. Period.” —Rest in Peace, John.
